About
I believe therapy is a collaborative journey of healing, and I strive to offer an inclusive, gentle, and tailored space where both adults and children feel empowered to grow and thrive.
I'm Nargis Ali, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master of Arts in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling. I believe we all have unique strengths that help us navigate life's challenges. Seeking support through counseling is one way to rediscover and foster them. Since 2016, I have worked with both children and adults facing challenges like anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma, and life transitions. My clients seek to build practical coping strategies, process painful experiences, or find emotional balance. My goal is to collaborate with you to create a secure path toward healing and personal growth.
My approach is collaborative and integrative, drawing from CBT, DBT, ACT, and Family therapy to meet your unique needs. You can expect a gentle, nonjudgmental space where we target specific goals, process trauma, and develop practical coping skills. Together, we will build on your strengths to help you navigate transitions and find lasting relief.
Taking the first step toward therapy is a courageous act of self-care. Wherever you are on your path, please know you do not have to walk it alone. I am here to support you with compassion, understanding, and respect. When you are ready to begin your healing journey, I invite you to connect with me and schedule your first session.

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Lisa: My go-to approach for helping kids in child therapy is allowing clients to answer for themselves. I find the best benefit in allowing client to take the lead because this gives them a sense of control and helps clients feel safe.
Evelyn: My go-to approach in child therapy is to make sessions as enjoyable as possible. I find the greatest benefits in using play-based techniques, as they help establish therapeutic rapport and create a calming environment.
Lisa: I use the following tools in child therapy:
Evelyn: I prefer a holistic approach when working with children. In addition to assessing for mental health issues, my training in early childhood psychology and child-parent psychotherapy enables me to evaluate developmental needs as well. I place great importance on parent-child interaction strategies and effective behavioral interventions to address various behavioral issues.
Lisa: I know a client is making meaningful progress in child therapy when they are able to do well in a classroom setting and at home. They are able to communicate to their teachers, parents, and their peers what they are feeling and what they need.
Evelyn: I recognize a client is making meaningful progress in child therapy when the client demonstrates improved behaviors across all settings, especially at home and school.
Lisa: Clients can supplement their time in child therapy with help from their parents or guardians in reminding them of the tools they have learned and can use. They can also practice the tools they have learned in their everyday life.
Evelyn: Clients can enhance their child therapy experience by consistently implementing interventions at home and remaining open to the change process, which varies for everyone.
Lisa: To prepare for their first child therapy session, a child can be reminded to be focused and to ask parents and clinicians questions when they are in sessions.
Evelyn: To prepare for their first child therapy session, it’s important for the child to feel relaxed and comfortable with the idea of therapy as a positive experience. The child should understand that they are not in trouble and that therapy is meant to help them.
Child therapy, also known as counseling for kids, helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst kids include behavioral issues, trauma, bullying, depression, and anxiety. All ages of children can attend and benefit from child therapy at Thriveworks San Antonio.
Child therapy works by using multiple techniques tailored to fit the child’s needs based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve play therapy for younger kids or cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks child therapists in San Antonio, TX have the expertise and experience to help kids at their level.
Child therapy is a type of therapy meant for clients within a specific age group, while play therapy is an approach to therapy that helps children with self-expression and stress relief, among others. Play therapy is a technique that is often used in child therapy to help children express what’s running through their minds when they do not have the words to express their thoughts and emotions. It can get children to express what’s wrong, what might be causing unwanted behaviors, or what they might need in a way that is accessible to them so that therapists can then work to treat the issue.
It’s not always obvious when a child should see a therapist for their behavior, though in the midst of challenges like divorce, loss, bullying, and other mental health conditions, it’s often a good idea to seek it out. Common behaviors that can indicate a need for child therapy include separation anxiety, bedwetting (at inappropriate ages), and agitation/excessive irritability — especially if it reaches a point of physical violence.
Cognitive behavioral therapy at Thriveworks in San Antonio, TX is one of the best types of therapy for children. However, it can be administered in child therapy sessions in a variety of ways that are more accessible to young minds, such as play therapy.
Child therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of child therapy depends on your child’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, child therapy sessions will last for several months.
