About
I understand how deeply life’s hardest moments can affect us. I also know that with support and resilience, it’s possible to move through these challenges and come out stronger.
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with over 11 years of experience working in integrated medical and behavioral health services, nonprofit organizations, and private practice. I work with adults navigating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and major life transitions. I strive to offer a compassionate, collaborative space where you can express your emotions, feel heard, and work toward your goals.
I hold a master’s degree in counseling from Southern Nazarene University. My therapeutic approach incorporates acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered techniques, and a solution-focused style to support transparency, insight, progress, and healing.
Life can feel overwhelming, and taking the first step toward support matters. I provide an open, safe space to work through challenges without fear of judgment. When you are ready, I would be honored to help you move toward healing and the changes you want to make in your life.

As a Black queer woman with lived experience on both sides of the therapy room, I bring both professional expertise and personal understanding to the healing process, believing that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and accepted without judgment.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensed in Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas, as well as a Certified Sex Therapist and Certified Life Coach. For 17 years, I've worked with adults, primarily women, navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, identity exploration, life transitions, and sexual concerns. I provide an affirming, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore who they are, strengthen their relationships, and create lives that feel more authentic and fulfilling.
Therapy isn't about fixing who you are. It's about understanding what shaped you, identifying what no longer serves you, and building the skills to move forward with greater confidence and intention. I integrate EMDR, ACT, attachment-focused, psychodynamic, and somatic approaches to support meaningful, lasting change.
You don't have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You just have to believe that things can be different. If you're ready to better understand yourself, heal from what's been holding you back, and build a life that feels more aligned with who you are, I'd be honored to support you on that journey.

As a play therapist, the go-to approach for helping kids in child therapy is utilizing expressive arts and play therapy techniques. The preference lies in this approach because it allows children to communicate and process their emotions and experiences in a natural and non-threatening way. Through play, children can express themselves creatively, explore their inner world, and develop coping strategies. The best benefit is found in using play therapy because it fosters a therapeutic relationship built on trust and rapport, which is essential for facilitating emotional healing and growth in children. Additionally, play therapy provides a developmentally appropriate means for children to address and resolve conflicts, trauma, and other psychological challenges they may be facing.
In child therapy, the following tools are taught:

Child therapy, also known as counseling for kids, helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst kids include behavioral issues, trauma, bullying, depression, and anxiety. All ages of children can attend and benefit from child therapy at Thriveworks McKinney.
Child therapy works by using multiple techniques tailored to fit the child’s needs based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve play therapy for younger kids or cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks child therapists in McKinney, TX have the expertise and experience to help kids at their level.
Child therapy is a type of therapy meant for clients within a specific age group, while play therapy is an approach to therapy that helps children with self-expression and stress relief, among others. Play therapy is a technique that is often used in child therapy to help children express what’s running through their minds when they do not have the words to express their thoughts and emotions. It can get children to express what’s wrong, what might be causing unwanted behaviors, or what they might need in a way that is accessible to them so that therapists can then work to treat the issue.
It’s not always obvious when a child should see a therapist for their behavior, though in the midst of challenges like divorce, loss, bullying, and other mental health conditions, it’s often a good idea to seek it out. Common behaviors that can indicate a need for child therapy include separation anxiety, bedwetting (at inappropriate ages), and agitation/excessive irritability — especially if it reaches a point of physical violence.
Cognitive behavioral therapy at Thriveworks in McKinney, TX is one of the best types of therapy for children. However, it can be administered in child therapy sessions in a variety of ways that are more accessible to young minds, such as play therapy.
Child therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of child therapy depends on your child’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, child therapy sessions will last for several months.
