I help clients make sense of difficult emotions and patterns by breaking complex ideas into clear, practical tools they can actually use in everyday life.
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than nine years of experience helping adults navigate anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, and patterns that leave them feeling stuck. I work especially well with clients who want more than a place to vent—they're looking for practical insight, clearer direction, and tools they can apply in everyday life. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, recognize patterns shaping your choices, and create meaningful, sustainable change.
My approach is practical, collaborative, and focused on making emotional and psychological concepts easier to understand. I use skill-based strategies for emotional regulation, trauma processing, cognitive reframing, mindfulness, and behavioral change. You can expect honest conversation, curiosity, humor, and tools tailored to how you think and live.
You don't have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. We can begin where you are, make sense of what's been weighing on you, and work toward changes that feel realistic and meaningful. If you're ready for a supportive, practical space focused on moving forward, I encourage you to schedule an appointment.

As a mixed-race, seven-year married, retired Army Veteran, with a blended family I have been honored with life experience that translates on multiple levels. Hello, I'm Amber, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I believe that counseling is a collaborative therapeutic partnership built on trust, respect, and authenticity. I view each client as an expert on their own life, while my role is to provide guidance, clinical expertise, and support as we work together toward meaningful and lasting change. My goal is to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. I strive to help individuals develop the insight, skills, and confidence needed to overcome anything. The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. We will review confidentiality, discuss your concerns, explore what has brought you to counseling, and identify your goals for treatment. Together, we will develop an individualized plan that reflects your values, strengths, and desires Working with adolescents, families, couples, veterans, and active-duty military has provided me with extensive experience treating trauma and trauma-related concerns, as well as anxiety, depression, crisis intervention, and adjustment difficulties.
I'm a licensed professional counselor associate (LPC associate) and a graduate of Texas A&M University–Central Texas. My experience spans a continuum of care, from inpatient treatment to intensive outpatient and outpatient settings, including a year-long internship at an inpatient hospital. I have also facilitated violence prevention groups and worked with court-mandated individuals. My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). While I do not currently specialize in one specific area, I'm committed to continually expanding my knowledge across a broad range of mental health concerns and client populations.
My approach to counseling is grounded in the belief that you have the power and the reins in your own life. I see my role as a sounding board, guide, and supportive partner. Stress management is an important part of my approach. I also believe counseling should consider the whole person—work, relationships, children, and pets all influence wellbeing.
I recognize choosing to begin counseling is a meaningful decision, and I don't take the time you share with me for granted. One of the quotes I've carried with me is, "Be the leader you wish you had." That idea reflects how I strive to show up—with honesty, compassion, respect, and genuine care. If you feel ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment.

My approach for therapy is to first establish a good rapport with the clients. I welcome questions along the way, and, especially in intake, let them know they can share what they are comfortable with and that I will respect their boundaries.
Families learn through various techniques how to better express themselves verbally and nonverbally, apply active listening, and identify and establish healthy boundaries. Utilizing different exercises such as narrative stories, mirroring, role play, and play therapy helps family members come to a greater understanding of themselves and each other while building a stronger, renewed sense of connection and family identity.
Families begin making meaningful progress in therapy when they gain more insight into their issues and start catching themselves in old thinking and problem-solving patterns. Also, when they start connecting with each other again in various activities, conflicts are reduced, and appropriate, effective communication increases among each other.
Families can do many things in their personal time to supplement therapy. They can supplement their time between sessions by working on some of the exercises and techniques reviewed with them in sessions. Family therapy activities include worksheets and writing assignments, role-playing, family genograms, art therapy, playing games, and doing other fun activities together.
To prepare for your first therapy session, each family member can write down a list of questions and concerns to discuss. This can include current stressors in your family's life, past issues/events that have occurred that you may want to address, as well as current symptoms and how long you have been experiencing them. Of course, you will want to think about what you want to work on while in therapy, as well as what goals you want to strive for in your family.
Family therapy helps families resolve conflicts and strengthen their relationships. It is led by qualified mental health professionals like psychologists, licensed professional counselors (LPCs), and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) who have extensive training in family dynamics and group communication.
Thriveworks family therapists in Kingwood, TX usually begin by asking what everyone’s goals are for family counseling. Family members may need help with very specific issues or with general relationship functioning. But there are three main purposes in family counseling: to educate, to counsel, and to strengthen. Thriveworks also offers online family therapy and in-person services, so you may all meet in an office together or join a video call from your home depending on everyone’s location and availability.
The most effective form of Family therapy will often depend on the family itself, as there are many types of family therapy for therapists to use as they see fit in order to best meet the needs of their clients. However, one of the most commonly used types of family therapy is structural family therapy (SFT). SFT focuses specifically on family dynamics and interactions, looking at how they shape the relationships and structure present in the family. It can be effectively used to treat a variety of concerns.
This answer often looks different to each family that starts family therapy. However, some signs that your family might need to consider family counseling include frequent fights or misunderstandings, constant tension, experiencing loss, behavioral issues, marital issues, divorce, and blended family issues, among others.
In family therapy, therapists will often start by asking questions and assessing individual and family dynamics. From there, they may employ therapeutic techniques such as structured family therapy, CBT, strategic family therapy, and more depending on the present concerns and conflicts. From there, a therapist will work to open lines of communication between family members and facilitate emotional healing and growth.
Family therapy can be incredibly successful, with some studies reporting a success rate of almost 90% for improving participants’ emotional and mental health, and around 66% for improving their physical health.
Thriveworks therapists in Kingwood, TX offer both online family therapy and in-person family therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Family therapy is usually short term and solution-focused, with most families accomplishing their goals in 12 sessions or fewer. However, it can also last for longer if the probles at hand are more complex — and that’s okay, too.
The premium family therapists at Thriveworks in Kingwood, TX can facilitate these complex discussions between family members and help people determine what a healthy family looks like to them. Family therapy takes place in a safe, secure atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to speak their mind respectfully and openly. Each point of view matters. A family therapist helps family members zero in on the exact issue, then helps them find practical solutions. Reach out today to get started.
Family counseling can help family members achieve their individual and collective goals, whatever they may be. Licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) at Thriveworks are experienced in treating all kinds of issues that crop up in families, including the following:
Though a family therapist’s job isn’t to assign blame, sometimes they may identify one family member who could benefit from additional psychological support. In that event, they may refer the person for individual counseling.
A typical treatment plan for family therapy might include a hybrid of therapeutic approaches, such as strategic therapy, narrative therapy, structural therapy, or systemic therapy. Family therapy sessions might also incorporate mindfulness techniques that can improve everyone’s overall mental health. Family therapy can also assign specific exercises that may help enhance communication and honesty between family members.
Above all, family therapists at Thriveworks in Kingwood, TX develop treatment plans that aim to achieve the family’s own goals. This means they may focus on any of the following issues:
