Catherine Roberts is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 22 years of experience in the mental health field. She understands the unique issues of clients with different personal, ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
Catherine enjoys working with clients who are experiencing self-identity, interpersonal relational issues that affect their job and family dynamics. This is her ideal type of client to work with because there is a lot of self-exploration the client will need to work on first. Some of the issues that will come up are self-loathing, lack of esteem, shame, and poor self-image. As a clinician, Catherine provides them support and total acceptance. When the client can begin to embrace and accept who they are without judgment, they can begin to work on how they relate to other people in all areas of their life. This can be done slowly and one step at a time. The pace is usually set by the client and how they progress along in treatment as they embrace each stage of their new self.
Catherine began her career in the mental health field as a therapist in an inpatient facility, responsible for the patient's ongoing clinical progress while at the hospital. Her patients varied in ages from 10 to 12-year-old children, to 13 to 17-year-old adolescents, to 18 to 55-year-old adults, and seniors who were in crisis. She worked with patients who were diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Anxiety, Major Depression, Obsessive Impulsive Disorder, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Mood Disorder, Alcohol/Drug Dependency, Conduct Disorder, and Sleep disorder, just to name a few.
Catherine really enjoys getting to know people while working with them on their unique concerns. She offers a very supportive and client-centered environment to therapy, and she loves helping clients move toward their goals by being a partner in their journey towards a renewed self and clinically appropriate treatment. She enjoys working with clients and assigning them research-based homework activities to help them work independently on areas of concerns outside of the sessions. Her areas of specialty include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, interpersonal therapy, and other researched based therapeutic approaches that are appropriate to treatment.

Hi, I am Ryan Wade, a psychiatrist board certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. I completed medical school and my Psychiatry residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School, followed by an Addiction Psychiatry fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. Despite my training in the addiction field, I spend a large portion of my time focusing on mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. I find that I typically work most with people who want to consolidate their medication regimen or those who view medication as a tool, not solely the solution to the issues they are facing.
I attempt to meet people where they are and the level they are willing to engage with treatment as this varies significantly from person to person. I believe psychotherapy is quite powerful for most people and routinely recommend it alongside my work with clients, including any medications I would potentially prescribe.
If you are considering seeing someone for your mental health — or even wondering if what you are feeling day-to-day is "normal" and would like an assessment — feel free to schedule an appointment. There is no pressure to start medication or to even continue in treatment if you feel that it isn't right for you. I look forward to meeting you soon!

High speed Internet, smartphones, unlimited data plans, tablets, laptops and more make the Internet easily accessible. Most people can be online wherever and whenever they want to be. Some people have no issues unplugging, but some people wrestle with how much time they spend online and what they do there. Internet addiction, in that respect, is very similar to other behavioral addictions like shopping or gambling. Like other addictions, compulsive Internet use can have severe consequences in an individual’s life. Also like other addictions, compulsive Internet use has effective treatments.
The therapists at Thriveworks Atlanta in Sandy Springs, GA offer treatment for Internet addiction, and more and more, our therapists, counselors, and psychologists are seeing clients who are struggling. More and more, we are also seeing people who receive the help they need to regain control over their online compulsions. Reach out today to Thriveworks for internet addiction help of your own.
The idea that someone could become addicted to the Internet was first suggested in the mid-1990s—before the Internet had become a fixture in people’s lives and while people still had to dial-up to log-in. At first, the concept was thought of as a joke, but mental health professionals soon realized that Internet addiction could be a serious mental health challenge for people. By 1998, Dr. Kimberly S. Young had developed diagnostics for recognizing when people are using the Internet compulsively. The diagnostics share many characteristics with other types of addiction. When someone has at least five of the following, they may be addicted to the Internet:
When you read about Internet addiction, did anything stand out to you? If you are struggling to control how much you use the Internet or what you do online, then know that you are not alone. Others are struggling as well, and there are many resources available.
